Medical emergency abroad
Call the 24/7 assistance number printed on your policy documents before you pay for treatment. Most insurers will arrange payment with the hospital directly.
Your certificate or policy number
It is on the confirmation the insurer emailed you at purchase.
Proof of what happened
Medical notes, a delay confirmation from the airline, a police report for theft.
Proof of what it cost you
Original itinerary, invoices, receipts, and any refund the supplier already gave back.
The insurer's filing window
Most policies want notice within 20–90 days of the loss, so file early.
